Who We Are

California Homeschool Network (CHN) was founded in 1994 by a statewide group of homeschooling families. We are an inclusive group, which means we serve families from all religious and ethnic affiliations that practice all homeschooling styles.

We are an all-volunteer organization of energetic and dedicated homeschooling families working to preserve our own educational freedom. CHN monitors and responds to legislation which may pose a threat to homeschooling. We also inform and empower homeschooling families, educate the public, and foster community among home educators in the state of California.

California Homeschool Network exists to protect the fundamental right of the family to educate its children in the manner it deems appropriate without regulation or interference by federal, state or local agencies.

California Homeschool Network monitors and responds to legislation which may pose a threat to homeschooling, and to this end, maintains a dialog with local, state, and national homeschooling organizations.

California Homeschool Network serves to inform and empower homeschooling families, educate the public, and foster community among home educators in the state of California.

• CHNews is the colorful magazine quality homeschooling publication of the California Homeschool Network. It is mailed to all CHN members, and the articles are often discussed at park days! Included in each issue are legal and legislative updates along with important homeschooling information that inspires and encourages our members. Members also receive a colorful ezine that is packed with photos of California homeschoolers, polls, and up to the minute information.
  
• Members are invited to join The Grapevine, CHN's private email list. Members of this list can attend regular private online chats.
   
• CHN Members are entitled to attend quarterly membership meetings to witness Board of Trustee deliberations. Members are invited to participate in the meetings and express their opinions. CHN members have a voice!
   
• The CHN Board of Trustees is elected by the membership, and members are encouraged to become candidates for the Board.
   
• CHN is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, run by volunteer members. New volunteers are always welcome! Join CHN and make a difference!
